PERMAN PINAFORE COMPANY.

The 'above company made their first appearance at the Public.Hall. last evening to a very fair house, in Gilbert »nd Sallivan's evergreen "Pinafore." Previons to the curtain rising a telegram was rf ad by Mr Waud to the effect that owing to the non-arrival of the Waipara from Tokitlka with the special scenery and Yime-Yighh effect*, it would be impossible to place the piece on the stage as had been done elsewhere, but this defeot would be remedied on the . following night. Degpite this, the opera went well from start to finish, the company seeming to enjoy it as muoh as the audience. Atisi Bella Perman took the part of " Sir Joseph Porter, X.C.8.," and filled it admirably, making every point tell. Miaa Laura RoberfcV as " Josephine " was In excellent voice, and her rendering of the several Bongs took every one by surprise. Miss Hettie Howard's "Little Buttercup," was a treat in itself, her singing and acting— including the by-play— bringing roars of laughter, The "sisters, and the cousins, and the aunts," were fairly represented, including two little mites, who did their parts to perfection. Mr C. Moore as " Ralph Rackstraw," seemed to be much more at home; in opera than in "nigger" business, and his pleasant though high tenor voice was excellently heard. ■ Of Mr J. Oollinß (" Captain Corcoran"), W. Perman ("Dick Deadeye "), Gus Lynch (" Ben Backstay "), and the ofhers we can only say that we have seen others of greater pretensions in the same parts who have not done so well. Altogether the company was an agreeablo surprise, and we can recommend lovers of the " Pinafore " to go and see them.
