AURIFEROUS QUARTZ DISCOVERY

[tJITCTED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Hokitika, January 17. An important discovery of quartz reefs has been made on the north-eastern slope of Mount Rangitoto, four m'les from Cedar Creek reef. The reef is said to be well defined, 15 feet thick, and carries payable gold. The official assay will be probably known to-morrow. A number of leases have been pegged off. There is great excitement in Ross.
