(Received November 19, at 11.45 a.m.) MANDALAY CAPTURED.
Rango n, November 18,
Advices from Major-General Prendergast announce that the British forces have captured Mandalay. The fighting was of a vary stubborn character and lasted fully three hours. The whole of the Burmese position was carried by assault. The British loss was slight. Major Prendergast is now advanceing.
(Received November 19, at 1.45 p.m.) CAPTURE OF MINLA..
Calcutta, November 18,
Intelligence from Burmah states that the British forces operating on the Irrawaddy captured Minla without much opposition. Obstinate resistance was, however made by the enemy at the Palace on the opposite side of the river, the engagement lasting several hours. Ultimately Woon's men succeeded in driving the Burmese out, with heavy loss.
