Sir Frederick Broome, Governor of Western Australia, who is staying at Go" vernment House, has been seriously ill from inflammation of the lungs. He is now progressing favorably. The Legislative Assembly approved of £10,000 being spent on the purchase of a summer residence for the Governor after a slight discussion. Macedon is the district chosen. A meeting of the Wool Growers' Association was held on Thursday last. The preliminary disposition of funds will be as follows : — Appointment of commission accredite * to visit China, Japan, and British India for the express purpose of investigating the best methods of commencing operations in those countries. Cardinal Moran arrived by the Liguria on Friday night, and met with a very warm reception at the steamer by many dignitaries of the Church and public mew. Sydney. The Cricket Association has declined to join the Melbourne Cricket Club in sending home a team next year. The Melbourne Club still intends to send one in spite of this. The wharf laborers held a meeting at Newcastle to-day, but nolhing definite was decided. Some of them resumed work yesterday, and demanded that the contractors should dismiss those working during the strike.
