Sir Henry Drummond Woolff, British Envoy-Extraordinary, arrived here to-day from Constantinople. ATTEMPTED ASSINATION OF M. FREYCINET. Paris, October 29. An attempt, fortunately unsuccessful, was made to shoot M. Freycinet to-day. A man fired a shot but was arrested by bystanders and placed in custody of the police before he could fire another shot. The prisoner preserves a reticent attitude and will not divulge the motive that actuated him. (Received October 31, at 1.45 a.m.) October 30. Further enquiries has revealed the fact that the would-be assassin of M. Freycinet is a Corsican. He admits having premediatp.d the attempt, but has not stated his reasons for the crime.
