PRACTISING WITHOUT A DIPLOMA.

Chas. Grimes, charged with illegally practising as a medical man, appeared at the R.M. Court and pleaded not guilty, as he was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, having passed examinations and having paid all fees thereon in 1872. All he had to do was to pass his examination for medicine before a board quite distinct from the College of Surgeons. He could obtain his diploma. . He had practised in Christchurch as a surgeon, and had a very good practice there, and in fact while there had been employed by the police. Wardell remarked that virtually defendant had no diploma, and therefore he was illegally practising as a surgeon. Defendant stated that the Royal College of Surgeons had forwarded a certificate to the University in Sydney. All he could say was that he was on the roll of the Royal College of Surgeons, and he could write to Sydney asking that the document from the English College cf Surgeons be forwarded here. Tiie bench imposed a fine of £o, and £3 10s costs, recoverable by distress. Defendant said he should appeal.
