BRUNNERTON.

; ♦ [from our correspondent.] ' July 21st. [ , The following is a copy of a telegram : received late last night by Mr Redmayne ; from G. Ansell, one of the two delegates | sent to interview Government in regard to 1 the Wallsend leases : — " Have interviewed 1 Minister of Mines, Premier, and Minister 7 Lands. Cabinet meeting on question tomorrow. Guinness and Menteath are r assisting." 1 Mr Denhard has wired to the leaseJ holders at Wallsend asking if they had [ sent a petition, and stating that Mr 3 Ronayne is at present at Wellington. The i telegram adds : — " Wire sharp. Have in. terviewed Reynolds, chairman of directors, but there are no better terms yet. ! The committe on petition at eleven o'clock. Will wire result. I The following is the coppy of a post card ' sent to all leaseholders at Wallsend : — 1 "Do you wish the bridge to cross above ? the present one 1 If so, things are going [ well in uhat direction, but if you want it J across Rocky Island you must move at ! once.— (Signed), Verb Sap." , A mean and spiteful trick was played I on Mr Houguez last night or early this 5 morning. On Saturday he purchased a [' lot of shrubs and planted them. Much to 3 his surprise this morning on getting up he found they had been stolen. Some little | girls playing on the railway bank near his [ residence, found a number of the shrubs ' under some old logs. Some of them had 3 been twisted and broken so as to be quite ' useless. This is not the first time Mr , Houguez has been annoyed in this way. | Some few weeks ago he found five of the 3 largest panes of glass in his shop smashed. [ They cost 15s each- The affair is now in I the hands of the police, and there is little ) doubt that the party or parties will soon [ put in an appearance before the Resident 3 Magistrate, as the constable and Mr ' Houguez is leaving no stone unturned to [ discover them.
