UNLAWFUL UTTERING.

Blenheim, January 24. Joseph Davis, Licensee of the Tua Marina Hotel, has been committed for trial for unlawfully altering a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, the charge being laid under the Forgery Act. It was alleged that deceased, who is an old resident and man of property, filled up a cheque for £2 at the request of one O _eary, and after deducting the hotel debt gave O'Leary a few shillings change. O'Leai/ swears he signed it for £2 only, and alleged that accused afterwards altered the word and the figuras from two j to twelve, for which latter sum accused cashed it. Bail is allowed, accused in £300 and two sureties of £150 each.
