FATAL GUN ACCIDENT.
Hokitika, January 25. This morning about ten o'clock a frightful and fatal accident occurred to J. C. Frew, the well-known civil engineer. He called at Glasses farm, Kokotahi, and saying that there were wild ducks in the creek near, borrowed a double-barrel gun. Shortly afterwards a report was heard, and Frew was found with his face frightfully shattered. He was taken to the hospital, but died after a few hours. Deceased w?t much liked, and universally regretted. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
