EDUCATION COMMISSION.

Thursday, January 22, 1885,

The Commissioners of the District of Westland -held a special meeting at the office, Mackay street, at 8 p.m. Present: Major Keddell (Chairman), Messrs R. Nancarrow, and T. Ronayne. Resolved,—:" That the circulars and regulations re payment to committees and teachers be adopted."

Resolved — "That two scholarships of the value of £40 each, tenable for two years, be competed for this year. The names of insending competitors to be sent in on or before Thursday, the 30th inst., and the examination to be held on Thursday and Friday, February 7th and Bth, commencing at 10 a.m. The - Secretary and Mr Skoglund to supervise the examination, and that there be- no examination in science."

Petition from parents of children of Wallsend asking for the establishment of a school — Memorandum from the head master Brunnerton school upon the subject. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Ronayne, reconded by Mr Nancarrow. — " That a side school to Brunnerton school be. opened at Wallsend, under the charge of a junior assistant teacher ; and that a report be obtained as to repairs required to the old school building, and probable cost of same." The Commissioners adjourned at 10 p.m.
