THE CHRISTOHURCH UNEMPLOYED.

Christchurch, July 14. A meeting of the unemployed was held last night at the Drill Shed, where the Mayor and Messrs Holmes, Joynt, and Blevois delivered addresses. A telegram from Government was read offering employment to 30 men trenching at Rolleston. The men are 1 1 be taken by early train and return at night, so as to avoid the necessity for living away from their homes ; the wages to be 4s 6d per day. The meeting decided to petition for 5s 6d per |day. Several of the unemployed have accepted Government's latest offer of work at 4s 6d a day along the railway, together with free conveyance by train to and from Christchurch every day.
