THE COURT MINSTRELS.
The Court Minstrels opened last even- 1 >: ing at the Public Hall and the various. -. items in the programme were enthusiastically received — almost every song and dance being encored- The first part of the programme consisted of the usual Christy's Minstrels entertainment, in which Mr Marshall acted as interlocutor, while the two corner men were sustained by Hosea Easton (bones), arid Billy "Wilson (tambo), and their eccentrioitlei "kept the house in a roar. The performance - opened with' the overture by the company, which , was well played, and Mr Smythe, who has a nice tenor voice, sang "Mothers with the angels now,' and was warmly applauded. "Did yon ever,'* ' " a burlesque stag on " Pinafore,'" by Mr Easton, followed, and then came a pretty f song by Mr Bowman, " Time may steal away the roses." " The Nig that's always , laughing^" by Mr Billy Wilson, was., unanimously encored. Mr Marshall then" nsang "ThatV%here I'd like to be," in a : capital manner. Mr Marshall possesses i fine voice, which is quite a treat to hear. > • The first part concluded with a comic Bketch " B. B," by the whole of the company, whioh was ' encored. Alter- an <■ interval a pianoforte selection was played ; by the planiste, Madame Andree. One •:' of the gems of the evening came next, the" duet from Marltaria "King of Spate,'* ",',-, by Messrs Smythe and Marshall. "Lei me be," a comio sketch by Messrs Wilsp^ and Easton, was encored. Mr Bowman sang next a pathetic song, "Qver the hills to the poor house," which he had to .: repeat. Hosea Easton, in his stump speech propounded; the query "What shafy "- we do with our girls V and, after a most amusing dissertation on things in general, , left his audience In doubt as to what" should be done with the femenine gender. -'^ The song and- dance " How's that ! ; ;lwf '" high," by Billy Wilson, was eneor&T-'PU*-,, ;. Marshall's scoria, "I fear no foe," was " indoed a grand one, and was warmly applauded. The entertainment con* eluded with the farce of "Ben John' son's Courtship," whioh left the audience in a roar. Taere will be an entire change - it> the programme this evening. The entertainment is the best Christy Minstrel entertainment that has yet apg peared in Greymouth, aid is well wertbp of patronage.
