Auckland, October 20. The damage at the fire at Branston and Foster's is estimated at L9OO. Macefield held a block of buildings insured in the Royal for LIOOO. Branston and Foster had tbe stock insured for LIOOO, and the pattern loft and contents for L 650 in the New Zealand. The Queen's Redoubt. Hall was burnt down early on Sunday morning. Mr Porter estimates his loss at L 350. He was uninsured. A cablegram has been received announcing the death of Captain Carey, on board the Rotomahana, of heart disease, on tbe passage from Auckland to Sydney. He was wel' known as captain of the Star of the South, Ethel, and Glencoe.
