Melboukne, Sept 12 Arrived — Albion, from the B uff. Wellington, S pt 12 The stf amer which went in search of the waterlogged schooner Laurel returned to port this morning withont having seen her. The following has been received from M r Hornby, of Picton :— " A Vessel was seen . last night (Wednesday) north of Jackson's Head. Part of her sails were set, and she was apparently drifting " A preliminary enquiry into the circumstances connected with the loss of the Laurel was held before the Collector of Customs. The captain was examined, bat could give no evidence to chow how the leak occurred Arrived— Rotorua, from Melbourne ; Wallace, frcm Nelson. Sailed— Loch Ore •, for Portland, Oregon j Tararoa, for Melbourne ; Rotorua, for Sydney ; Taiaroa, for Nelson.
