COLLEGE IN MEMORY OF NEW ZEALAND'S FIRST BISHOP.
London, July 18. It has been decided to erect a College at Cambridge University to the memory of the late Bishop Selwyn. [SPECIAL TO THE WELLINGTON POST.] London, July 12. England occupies Cyprus in strong force. 7000 Indian troops, and 2400 British soldiers are to form an obstacle to any further advance of Russia in Asia. July 13. In the Paris Exhibition the Australian wools excel greatly, and probably will be awarded the [first prize, besides a gold medal. In most sections the Australian exhibits stand conspicuously high. Some foreign Governments are asking for quotations of Australian preserved meats. The Colonial office has distributed the prospectuses of the Sydney Exhibition, and numerous applications, both British and foreign, have been received for space. The Liberal party is organising a determined opposition to the English occupation of Cyprus, on account of ifc being apparent that an allience is being entered into with Turkey for the protection of her Asiatic dependencies. The Liberals think that Ottoman mis-government precludes the possibility of an English alliance with Turkey.
