Earl Salisbury flatly denied his statement, which Earl Derby re -affirmed. Later, Earl Beaoonsfield, in. vindicating the provisions of the Berlin treaty, Baid that England's insisting on wresting Baton m , and Kars from Russia would certainly have entailed war ; and that the object to be gained would not have justified such a result. England took Syprus instead of Syria or Egppt, to avoid offending France. There is great excitement in Italy at the results of the Congress. [special to press agency.]
