The Melbourne "Argus" of the 29th ult reports as follows : — Breadstuffs meet with no inquiry ; sales are trifling and unimportant Bakers' lots of flour are quitted at L 1 3155, bags returned, but for parcels there is no inqury though holders show every desire to meet buyers' views, and offer to quit at Ll3 to Ll3 2s 6d, without being responded to. Wheat is also nominal at 6s 3d to 6s 4d, for very prime, but we have no sales to report. Oats do not move, and in the absence of any business, S rices are nominal. Maize is held more rmly ; there is less offering in the market, and holders now ask 4s Bd. Hops have been more inquired for, and we learn of some 50 bales Tasmanian having been dis-—-posed-of in parcels at up to Is 6d, according to brand. A telegram has been received again in the city, which confirms the intelligence already published in regard to the very extreme price at which new hops are expected to open. At the public sale of tea this afternoon, some 14,000 packages were offered, but the bidding having proved very slow, the autioneers only succeeded in clearinff off about a third of the quantity at lOf d to Is 3d. The timber sales comprise lumber, ex various ships. Clear pine realised as high as Ll6; W. P. shelving brouaht L 9 17s 6dto L 10; W. P., T. G., L 9 to L 9 2s 6d ; carpenter's clear pine, LlO 10s to Lll ss; laths sold at 26s 3d to 25s 6d. and doors at 19s6dto 10s. Messrs R. Goldsbrough and Co. received the following telegram this mornins; at half past 10: — "London, Angust 27. — Wool sales opened higher than previous series. Scoured advanced l_d; greasy, unaltered; crossbreds, higher; lambs'* selling well; large attendance of buyers. English principal operators."
