CASUALTY TO A SCHOONER.

The schooner Pearl, the property of Mr J. S. Cross, went ashore in close proximity to the Fifesbire Rock, in the entrance of Nelson harbor, on the afternoon of the 22nd May. The vessel was sailing with a light wind into the entrance of the harbor, when the wind veered and the ebb tide which had been running out for an hour prevented the Teasel making headway, and gradually drifted her back. When the master saw this, he let go the anchor, which unfortunately had the effect of swi- giug her stern on to the rocks. The Pearl was bearing a cargo of coal from West Wanganui, and had a hole knocked in her bottom. She was got off on the 25th. We believe that only same few minutes previous to the accident Mr Cross had completed, by telegram, the sale of his vessel for L 460. She was not insured.
