Those who~knew Mr T. L. Bright will have beard with regret of his death, which occurred recently at Sandhurst. As a journalist, Mr Bright occupied a high position both in Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. He was at onetime one of the chief contributors to the Melbourne Argils, and subsequently became proprietor:: and conductor of a weekly paper,, -the Examiner^ and also of a publication known as the "Note ßook." He left Melbourne for Tasmania, and became editor of the Hobart Town Mercury, which paper he conducted with great success for several years. In 1863 he came over to Otago, and was on the staff of the Otago Datty Times for a.Bhort time, and left to edit the Southlaiid Times. Subsequently "he returned to' the Ddily Times, and on the starting of the West Coast Times in in Hokitika became editor of that journal. 11l health led to his leaving this Colony for Tasmania, where, for a time, he held his old post of editor of the SoiaH Tmon Mercury, but afterwards he proceeded to Australia, where he has been for the last two years. As a public writer Mr Bright had.few superiors ; he had great grasp of judgment, was a philosophical thinker, and was a most finished writer. Had his domestic surroundings been^ of a more satisfactory character he might have risen to the foremost rank- in his profession and lived to be a prosperous man; He was one of the West Coast members in the Canterbury , Provincial Council, and assisted largely in furthering the interests of this part of the Colony. Latterly he was in very reduced circumstances, and we fear that he died in poverty.
