INANGAHUA MINING NEWS.

j L HERAI P> MARCH 14.] :■■■ . ; Victoria.— The Victoria tribiitors have cleaned up after crushing 70 tons of stone at; the Westland machine, with a, result of 490z Idwt,' or a fraction under threequarters of an ounce to the ton. Wealth of Nations.— A cleaning up will take place at the end of the week, when it is confidently expected that the directors will be in a position to declare ihe first dividend. The construction of the low level tunnel is steadily proceeding, but the face at present is exceedingly hard. , The distance previously driven in the couse of four weeks is nearly 70ffc ; the work is being executed in first-rate style, ami when completed will certainly be one of the best constructed tunnels in the district. [The result of. the crushing will be found in our local columns.] Anderson's.— ln our last issue we gave the approximate. result obtained: from the recent crushing at, Anderson's. We are now in possession of the actual figures, which are as follows :— Amalgam,- 6280z 4dwt 12gr ; melted gold, 6260z 34dwt 12gr ; quartz crushed, 568 tons ; money value, L 2027 18s. deducting the expenses the above result leaves a balance in hand of L7OO. '•: As will: be seen, the expenditure has been very considerable, but only comparatively a small proportion of that expenditure has been immediately connected with the outcome of stone for the present crushing. Other works, which will greatly increase the value of the mine, have been simultaneously carried on. i Fiery Cross. — Still driving north towards ;the boundary of the Alexandra,; and the incline shaft has! been carried d«wn 6ft on a gond ; solid body of reef. By means of this shaft' the -company will be able to work the lower levels and keep up a constant supply of stone for the mill. Just-in-Time,— lt will certainly , be a' source of satisfaction to the shareholders ; to, learn, ; thati;the j reef , has again been found in this mine'in £he lowgr levels by means of ac ross-cut put inisrom,th*e:m a i n i drive about Bft or 9ft to the eastward and about 50ft south of the winze where the last oontraot was started from. At the

time of my visit the stone was about 12in or 18in wide, evidently making as it wa3 being opened out on, showing good geld. This is of course very encouraging news to the shareholders, because it shows that the reef, -though, running in bjtocks^has,* ,.,. kept a T regular "course, 'arid they -"may expect to meet with' a continuation of it.andV probably a larger reef at a lower level. Oapler.= The reef inthisulaitn ta»Fb^eTr^3 found in a fresh place near- the boundary of |the Walhalla, nfeasuring A 2jft_ wide,_ shoeing average richness. The contract for tunnelling work is finished, and fresh tenders are about to be let for a short tunnel to intercept the shaft in order to raise stone for crushing. Sufficient stone has^ been found in the upper levels to justify them in starting at once to open out and have a crushing as early as prac- " ticable. " ' "' '' ''' ''■ ' " '" "' '"" A "■'■'
