Friday, March 13. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.) CRIMINAL. Mary Maloney was charged with using violent, abusive, and threatening language towards Eosannah M'Nair, at Orwell Creek, on the 7th March. A request was also made that the defendant should be bound over to keep the peace. This was a quarrel among neighbors, arising out of the marauding and depredations of the fowls and domestic animals of either party. Much amusement was created by the examination and evidence of the female witness on the opposite side. The defendant was fined' 2os with costs and expenses, amounting to L 4 6s 6d, and was also directed to find security to keep the peace in a bond of Lls for six ninths. CIVIL OASES. Jas. Crozier v. Gilbert M 'Alpine. — A claim of L 5 ss, for board, &c, at Nelson Creek. The defendant admitted the amount of L 3 2s 6d, and eventually a verdict passed for the plaintiff for L 3 J6s, with L 2 Is costs. S. M. Mackley v. William Dewson.— A claim of L 23 6s 2d, for dairy produce supplied at Noble's Creek. : The account was originally for LlO7 Is 2d, but was reduced by credits for cash payments to the amount claimed. Mr^Staite, for the defendant, moved for a nonsuit, on the plea that the Court had no jurisdiction, the actual claim being above LIOO. His Worship overruled the point, considering that no matter what may have been the original claim the credits reduced the present claim, so as to bring it within the jurisdiction of the Court. The defendant supplied the residents of Napoleon with

milk, butter, &c, which he. purchased from the plaintiff during the rush in 1869, and the transaction between the parties extended over that whole year. After examining the accounts, his Worship gave judgment for the plaintiff -for HI 9 16s 2d with costs, payment to be , made at the rate of Ll per week. , • ' . • ; Alexander Montgomery v. John Devery —A claim of L 5 6s 9d, with interest at the rate of 8 per cent. for. 18 months. A plea of bankruptcy was set up for the defendant as a bar to action.: judgment for the plaintiff for L 5 5s 9d, the interest claimed being disallowed. . : .. < ; : Same v. Holmfis.— ForLß 3s. The defendant paid L 5 lls into Court as a settlement in full. The plaintiff withdrew his action, whereupon Mr Staite, who was retained by the. defendant, applied for his fee from the plaintiff. 'The application was disallowed, as the parties had settled matters before they 'came into Court. Same v. M'Nair.— A claim of L4l7s 6d, with interest at 8 percent, for 22 months. This was a charge for conveying luggage from the Grey Valley to Reefton. The defence was that the freight was only carried to Drayton by the plaintiff, and that the defendant paid another carrier to take it from Drayton to Reefton. This waa proved by a witness who received the cash for the freight from Square Town to Reefton. Judgment for Ll 12s with costs, the charge for interest being struck out. Henderson v. Lesk and wife. — A claim of ;L2O for damages done the plaintiff's garden at Orwell Creek by the wife of the defendant. The parties came to a settlement, and the case was withdrawn. Marshall v. Diammentia. — A claim of L 7: 58 lid for goods supplied at HalfOunce. Judgment for the amount claimed. The Court was adjourned. to the 20th March. , '•_.... '.'.'. ; :
