The ss, Tararua arrived from Melbourne at 6.30 p.m., on the 16th instant, after a five days two hours' passage. She left on the llth, and brings 25 chief and 79 steerage pasßeugers, and 128 tons of cargo for all ports. Passenger List — Cabin : Mr Button, Mr Plaisted, Mr Greenwood, Mrs Greenwood, Mr Brown, Mr J. S. M. Thompson, Mr W, Dalton, Mr R, E. Gullin, Mrs Kirkwood, Mr Geo. Pully, Mr Everett, Mrß, Powell, MrF. Banks, Mr Mastell, Mr Martin, Mr Nestield, Mr Mills, Mr Goldsmith, Mr A. Smyth, Mr Firebran, Miss Patterson, Masters Patterson (3). The s.s, Rangitoto arrived at Melbourne at 6 a.m. on the llth. Melbourne, Jan. 11. Flour is advancing; sales Ll3. Oats scarce, at 4s. Maize firm at 3s sd. Old. Adelaide.wheat, os 4d to 5s 6d. Improved demanl for teas ; sales ranging from Is 5d to Is 9d for medium to fine congous. Trade sales of sugars : white crystals, L3B. Malt. 9s 3d. Wool sales very spirited. Mr Goldsborough sold last week over 5000 bales ; greasy, 5d to 9|d ; scoured, lOd to 12|d ; fleace, lid to Is Bd. Mr Byrne, treasurer, and Mr Reeves, of the Public Works, have resigned, not being able to retain their seats. The names of their successors have not transpired. A Ministerial banquet takes place at Eagle Hawk on the 20th. Walter Montgomery has sailed for California. Mr Baudmann is at Ballarat. Mr Draper has been committed for trial on two fresh charges, and is unable, to find bail. The Barossa arrived from Hobart Town to receive the deserters from the Squadron. She sails for New Zealand to-day. An investigation into the management of the Nelson, training ship, is going on. Two of the schoolmasters, named Boye3 and Parnell, are accused by Captain Payne with treating the boy 3 with undue harshness. Arrived. — Aborigine, from Hokitika. The Flying Squadron has sailed from Hobart Town for New Zealand. I Mills' timber yard and sawing mills, also Solomon's store, in Flinders street west, were destroyed by fire on Thursday night, 6th instant. The English pedestrians ran matches on thecricketgroundonSaturday last and were beaten in every race by colonial runners. Sydney, Jan. 10. Final arrangements are completed to establish a line of steamers running between Sydney and San Francisco, callirg at New Zealand. The Rangatira ana Balclutha are chartered. The Rangatira is to open the line, sailing from Sydney on the first March. H. H. Hall, U.S, Consul, is agent for the company. The Californian mail route likely to receive small subsidy from Government. Wool sales firm. Arrived at Newcastle : Cantero, from Wellingt >n ; Medus, from Dunedin. Defalcations have been discovered in the Sydney Corporation accounts. Bourbon sugars, low to medium counters sold at L 33 to L 35. Queensland, Jan. 10. Patrick Hannay's body has been found in the Brisbane River with a heavy iron bar tied to his neck. X3OO reward has been offered for the apprehension of the guilty party or parties. Adelaide, Jan. 10. Corn market firm. The Assembly have adopted Carr's resolutions affirming the desirability of an Australasian commercial federation.
