THE KAPITEA CREEK.

1 (To the Editor of the Grey River Argus.) Sir — The stoppage of communication caused by the Kapitea Creek has been so ' frequent of late, both to passengers and > mails, that we anticipate a serious loss to s our traffic from the uncertainty of being i able to get through, especially upon signs s of recent rainfall, and we wish we could devise some means of making the journey , more. certain of completion and add some greater comfort to our passengers. 5 We can place a spare coach at the Teremakau to be used upon the arrival of the i> Grey coach when the Kapitea is flooded, • by Slattery crossing the river and using 5 the team always standing at our stables, I these returning with the mails and passengers from Hokitika. But to accomplish this something must be done by the Government to enable us to reach the I wire bridge, which at any freshet stands r at a happy distance from the shore, and - to which a boat must be used, and that [ ' with care, from the numerous snags lodged i in the shallow water. We should respectfully urge upon the authorities that the 3 present bridge be lengthened at both I ends and somewhat strengthened, for in fc crossing heavy mails the vibration ii sc i great that cuo is requisite in preventing 3 their being overturned in the stream.
