ROAD BOARD ELECTION.

The nomination of two members for the Grey District Road Board, in room of Messrs Wick.es and Whall, retired, took place at the Warden's Court, Greymouth, at noon yesterday. There was a very limited attendance. Mr Revell, Returning Officer, read the letter he had received from the Road Board, intimating the retirement of two members, in accordance with which he had announced that day for the nomination of candidates fox* the vacant offices. Those who were qualified to vote in the election, or to be candidates, must be registered on tlio electoral roll for the district, or be in possession of a miner's right six months old, and have been resident in the district for two months. He called upon electors to nominate candidates. The following nominations were then made : — James Hamilton, of Rutherglen, proposed by Mr Thomas Morgan, and seconded by Mr W. Card. John O'Connor, of Saltwater Creek, proposed by Mr Hugh Barnhill, and seconded by Mr W, Leach. 1 William Card, of New River, proposed by Mr H, Stuttard, and seconded by Mr J. Hamilton. Edwin Frederick Barnett, Rutherglen, proposed by Mx J. Hamilton, and seconded by Mr H. Stuttard. Charles Tkavers, Welshman's, pro posed by Mr W. Leach, and seconded by Mr H. Barnhill. A show of hands was taken in favor of the various candidates, with the following result : — Messrs Hamilton 5 „ Card 4 „ Barnett ... ... 4 „ O'Connor 2 „ Travers 2 Messrs Card aud Barnett having tied, another show for them was taken, as follows : — Messrs Card 7 „ Barnett 3 The Returning Officer declared the show of hands to be in favor of Messrs Hamilton and Card. Messrs Leach and Barnhill demanded a poll on behalf of Mr O'Connor. The Returning Officer intimated that the poll would take place on Tuesday next, at the following places : — Warden's Court, Greymouth ; Maori Gully; Rutherglen ; Card's store., Eight-mile Terrace, New River; and Stanley's store, the Shed, Greenstone.
