WOOLSTON TOWN DISTRICT
A meeting of the commission of the Woolston Town District was held in the Library on Thursday, November 30th. Present—Messrs Hopkins (chairman), York, Ticknor, MoDiarmid, Attwood, and Coles. The Chairman reported that a conference had been held with the Heathcote Road Board, and a committee appointed to adjust the accounts; but no agreement could be arrived at, the committee being unanimous that the accounts were very much one-sided. Correspondence referring to same will be laid before the Council, and also two statements of accounts. The chairman also reported that the attention of the works committee had been drawn to encroachment made by the contractor upon Ferry road. The clerk reported he had applied to other town districts, and also Christchurch City Council for copies of by-laws. Received correspondence from Selwyn County Council, re license fees ; Heathcote Road Board, re side-channels being attended to, and also statement of amended accounts. Several items contained therein the chairman contended were very unfair, and the commissioners quite concurred in this. After some discussion, it was resolved that the committee communicate with the Governor, requesting him to appoint a commissioner to adjust the accounts under section 12 of the Towns District Act. Account received for formation of footpaths was held over until accompanied with certificate of approval from works committee. Accounts from Messrs Major, Charlesworth, and White for labor, amounting to £<> Is, were passed for payment. From Mr S. S. Buxton, re dangerous part of Ferry road- The clerk was instructed to inform MrJ'Buxton it would be attended to. From Messrs Parkyn and Aylward, re price of metal; deferred. Prom Railway League ; deferred. The following resolutions wore passed :—Re Swing bridge —The clerk acknowledge receipt of letter from Heathcote Road Board, and state the committee consider it quite safe for the present. Re encroachment of road —The clerk inform the chairman of Tramway Company that the contractor has encroached upon the main road, and request him to see it attended to and loft in proper order. Re dangerous part of road between Mr Butcher’s and Mr George’s Hotel. That the works committee call for tenders to lower bank on road. The clerk acknowledge receipt of by-laws from Christchurch City Council with thanks. That Messrs Hopkins, Attwood, and McDiarmid form by-law committee, and also consider permanent duties of clerk for ensuing year. Re Eating Act—lt was resolved that the Woolston Town District adopt the new Eating Act of 1882. That the clerk send the necessary information to the commissioner. After some routine business, the mooting adjourned.
