YESTERDAY'S TELEGRAMS

[BY SUBMARINE CABLE.] [retttbr’s special telegrams to press agency.] AUSTRALIAN. Sydney, November 29. The Assembly are discussing the Address in Replyto the Governor’s Speech. An amendment has been proposed by the Opposition, which is virtually a motion of want of confidence. The result is doubtful. INTERPROYINCIAL. [per press agency,] Auckland, November 29. Many representatives of Masonic lodges from all parts of the North Island are coining to the installation of District Grand Masters Whitaker and Graham to-morrow. At the meeting of the Auckland Steam Packet Company yesterday offers were received for the Southern Cross and Pretty Jane, but were below their value. A resolution was passed in favor of winding-up and letting the property be sold to the best advantage. The meeting was very stormy, and there was a considerable amount of personal recriminations. Wellington, November 28. It was reported about town to-day that his Excellency the Governor received by the last English mail a despatch from the Secretary of State for the Colonies conveying an official intimation that Her Majesty has been pleased to confer on two ex-Judges, Mr Justice Greason and Mr Justice Chapman, the title of Honorable for life within the colony of New Zealand. Otago Central Agricultural Show. [prom the correspondent of the press.] Dunedin, November 29. The show on the second day would have been a great success but for rain falling about noon, which spoilt the attendance. About five thousand persons were present. The committee’s rule stated that all exhibits must remain till past four o’clock, hut on one or two slight showers falling nearly all the owners of stock took their exhibits off the ground, thus causing much grumbling from visitors.

In blood stock Dodson’s Cassivelaunus took the first prize, Barwon second, Flying Dutchman third. The entries of carriage horses and hacks were very numerous and of high quality, and the same may be said of cobs and ponies. Some fine draught stock was shown. G. Marten’s Prince of Wales took the champion prize, P. Grant’s Earl of Gowrie and horses owned by J. B. Sutton, R. Charters, and G. Reid and Co, Corner Bush, being next in favour. A great feature of the show was a collection of dogs, over 120 in number, and of great variety. The greyhounds were very good. E. Devine’s Bose took the first prize. The retrievers were not first-class, but the setters included fine specimens of Gordons and Russian. Spaniels and pointers were well represented, and bull dogs were especially strong, Mr Larnach took chief prizes in this breed. Fox terriers were numerous, and ordinary terriers of all kinds. Reed and Grey, Manning, and other implement manufacturers had engines and machinery working, which proved very attractive. Guthrie and Larnach’s woodware was highly spoken of, as also Gibbs and Clayton’s American notions. Dairy produce had a great number of entries, but agricultural produce was weak. New Zealand manufactures and products included rope, paper, soap, matting, wines, ale and porter.

Pigs made but a small display, and poultry were atso few in number but good in quality. Altogether the show was a great success, in part owing to the Riagnificent sheep and catth bought at the Christchurch show by Otag; men.
