BOROUGH COUNCIL
} FORTNIGHTLY MEETING
The fortnightly meeting of the Gifcbome' Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor presided and there were present Crs. G. Bradley Smith, H. E. Maude. 11. Holmes, P. Bushnell, J. Webb. J. Hall. N. H. Bull, and H. H. 'DeCos ta.
The secretary of the Crest Taxi Co. applied for an additional taxi ear license, this increasing tiicj company’s ears from four to five. TheMayor said the council was not able to grant the application for the moment. The by-law only allowed 17 licenses and the council had the full number. He thought however, that the. time had come when the number could be increased. On the Mayor's motion it was decided that tlio matter should be reviewed in June, when the limit imposed by the by-law 1 ran out, and that the Crest Taxi Company be notified to that effect. The managing secretary of the Cook Hospital Board asked the council to carry out- on behalf of the board the formation -of a footpath with the board’s boundary on Hos-pit-a Hill.— It ' was decided to instruct the engineer to carry out the work at an opportune time.
CONTEMPLATED WORKS In the course of its report the Public Works Committee stated that ft list of contemplated works for the fortnight was submitted by tho engineer. the principal works: being the placing ,of old . concrete blocks, removed from Gladstone road, to iorm a- kerb from the borough boundary, Hospital Hill, to Mr C. Matthews’ corner.. After completing this work excavated material from ' Gladstone . load will he used for the formation o!| a footpath. Other contemplated works were ■ tho cleaning of Kaiti septic tank, the construction of . a timber platform to carry tho power across the swamp section of tho road at the aerodrome, approximately 430 ft. of which has been completed, the growth of blackberry on Gentle Annie reserve has been treated with sodium chlorate, and rag;Wort plants have been pulled out. The removal of one half at Manga- • papa road intersection, the other at !Hospital Hoard intersection, is to be • Undertaken asi soon as possible, and i when carpenters are availblc suitable ;steps will be constructed and placed in position on Kaiti hill..
