new ZEALANDER SETS NEW FASHION. LONDON, October 17. Mr. I. Grant-Taylor, formerly a shefcp farmer in New Zealand, who now keeps a shop in London’s smart Burlington Arcade, is setting a new fashion in mascots— ducky birth stones. Mr Grant-Taylor has two hobbies, collecting jade and coloured stones and psychic research. ; In his studies of ancient beliefs and superstitions and their origins, particularly astrology, he came to the conclusion that there is a strong link between science and the occult and between tho precious stones which fascinated him and planetary influences. After months of research he has written a book based on these theories and drawing up a table of “birth stones” which, he claims, tallies not only with the ancient Zodiacal stones, but also' with the jewels mentioned in the. Old and New Testaments. Stage stars, speed aces, and air pilots have taken enthusiastically to the idea of a mascot founded on theories of the occult Black cats and horseshoes have taken a back seat.
