MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Cook County Council was held yesterday; present Mr. Clias; Matthews (elixt-V----manj, and Messrs. W.G. Sherratt, C. N. Thomas, M. Holden, J. E. Beuson, 0. Tietjen, M. T. R. Hall, A. H. Baker. F. A. Shank®, F. S. Bowen, J. Tombleson and S. T. Gray. An. application by Air. W. Oai-heft, who is e ecti.ng a. store at Bartlett s, to .in.st.al, a petrol pump on the premises was granted, the applient'on being subject to the usual conditions’. The Hon. W. Leo Martin, Minister of 'Lands, wrote replying to a, letter f oni the council in connection with arrears of rates owing by soldier settlers. The Minister stated that inquiries had been made, and ,it bad been ascertained that in nearly every ease tho set,tiers shown on the 1-sfc supplied by the council are also heavily in a-"-roars with rent- and Interest charges to the Crown.
