LICE-INFESTED SHEEP
“WORST CASE SEEN IN DISTRICT” WHAT STOCKLXSPECTOR SAID “The worst case seen in the distriost,” was the comment of the Stock Inspector, Mr. F. R. Bould, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr. E. L. Walton, SAL,- when Charles Gaukrodger, of Whatatutu was charge : with exposing lice-infested sheep for sale in the Matawhero yards. Mr. Bbu'ld added that such negligence was not fair to other stock owners. Mr. G. J. Nolan, who appeared for tho defendant, said the sheep came from To Rata station, part of which runs on to another station which is very wet in the back portion. 'Tho sheep bad been dipped by the defen 1ant but apparently dipping was of littlo use in this case. In reply to a. question by tiro Magistrate Mr. Bould said it was the first time defendant had been brought before the court. Tho Magistrate said that ns the inspector had stressed that it was a bad case, defendant would be fined £2 ami costs. Charges of exposing lice-infested sheep for salo were laid against several other farmers and agents, and fines wore inflicted as follows : Coop Biros., Wi 1 fired Alex Baylv: Leslie McKinley, Makauri; John L. Bellerby, Waerenga-o-kuri; Harry Bridge, Matawhero ; Frederick IV. Peddle. Matawhero; Hamilton W. Black, Manatuko, each £1 and costs,; Richard and Thorn ley Sherratt, Mo'rorcd and John Osmond, Makarnka, £2 and costs; an-l Stanley N. Smith, Waimata, who had two previous eonyictipns„£s and costs.
