POULTRY SHOW

CANARY AND CAGE BIRDS INCLUDED SUCCESSFUL OPENING The first combined show held by (he I’ovorty Bay Poultry. Pigeon and Case Bird Assoeation and the Poverty Bay Canary and Cage Bird Association attracted a good attendance in the City-Hall yesterday, both the general public and. the owners being keenly interested in the large entries. The big! hall presented a very business-like appearance, poultry and pigeons being staged in an improved manner, so as to give all birds open pens. The cage birds were exhibited in the supper-room upstairs.

An energetic committee, headed by the secretary, Mr J. F'. Forster, had worked hard previously, and repeated their efforts yesterday, with he result that the show was an outstanding success in every way.

The judges were: Utility poultry, Sir .1. S. Kisslim, Massey College; ojieu poultry classes, Mr W. Hicks • pigeons. Mr TV. J. "Wilkins. Hastings; cage birds, Mr Junto* Johnstone.

The show was oflically opened in the afternoon by the Mayor, Mr I). W. Coleman, ALP. After referring in humorous vein to the continuous interruptions from the pons, Air Coleman said that on each occasion the show appeared to him tot make progress. He had been told that the number of entries on this occasion was not so high as in some other years, hut whatever was lost in this respect was made up by the enterprise and energy, of the committee. He congratulated! the «s----sociat.'on on its efforts. The comniiat*'a*e worked hard, not* for what they could get out off the show, but'' for the cause they had at heart*—better birds in the Poverty Bay district. That they were succeeding was clearly scon by the success-of Gisborne ex Irbitors at* outside shows. In declaring the show open he wished it* every success. After the .setbacks in the years of depression ho wished them hotter days both *as individuals and as! an association. Air Coleman then declared the show open. The show will be open again to-day and to-night. Awards are as follows, the number of entries in the various classes being given in parentheses - OLD ENGLISH GAAIE. Bkick-breasted red cock (5) : A.
