MAORI STRIKES M.P.
ASSAULT ON EXPRESS TRAIN. . WANGANUI, June 26. While travelling in tho WellingtonNew Plymouth express train Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P. for Patea, is alleged to havo been assaulted by a Maori. A. lack of second-class accommodation at Aramoho resulted in an invasion of a first-class compartment hv members of a Maori sports team, who throw their luggage into racks without consideration for other passengers. One man tossed his bag oh a hat belonging to Mr Dickie, who remonstrated and was. seized by the coat. Other members of the team took hold of the Maori in an endeavor to avoid a. disturbance, but when Mr Dickie rose to complain to the guard ho received two blows in the face. Tbo police/at Hawcra were notified, but three constablse dispatched by car arrived at the station to find tho train already under way. Stations along tho line were communicated with,, but tho assailant was not identified.
