After supper the numerous, parcels were opened by the bride-to-be, revealing a .varied nsoni linent. of useful gifts. The bostons was wearing* a, becomSroek of rose sand crepe and l a coatee of gold. lame. 'Pile guest of honour was smart in a. frock of parchment satin combined with maitching lace. Among the guests* were: MtVsdames D’A. Blackburn, A. Blackburn, T. Scott; Misses M. Foster, N. Margoliouth,’E. and F. Matthews, J. and Y. MacDonald, Y. Cox, P. De Costa, D. Adams. Y .Harris, E. Wilson, D. Blair ton, M. Walton and N. and K. Pnsle.v. DICKENS CLUB On Wednesday might the. member's of the -Gisborne Dickens Club fare-well-ed a popular fellow-member, Mrs. \V. A. Smith, who is taking up her residence in Dunedin, at a delightful ph.rty at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Hampton, Derby street. The guests were welcomed by the president, Mr. T. G. Lawless. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames P. Mann, Simmons, H. Holmes, G. S. Vincent, N. Hooper ancl Misses Gleave and L. Btannett.
A diversified musical programme was contributed as follows: Vocal solos, Mrs. P. Barry and the Misses H. Moore and Li. Trowel!; musical monologue, Misfe P. Pollock; recitation, Miss A. Shields. Community singing, led by Mrs. Barry and Miss Trowel 1, proved popular, the accompaniments being placed by Mrs. Ha mpton. A cleverly arranged musical competition wins won by Mrs Barry and Miss Trowoll, and Mrs. A. Scott- secured the prize (donated by Mrs. Hampton) for a special Dickens competition, while tho winners in a luoky number competition included* Mesdames T-. G. Lawless, Perry, Pollock, Muskco and Miss Pollock.
During an interlude, Mrs, Lawless asked the guest of honour to accept a handsome pair of earrings and ncckKice of Chhicbe amber and a statuette of a Dickens character ns a tangible token of the esteem of the members. He -also paid a. warm tribute to her wo k in the interests of the club, and in expressing regret at the departure from the district of herself and her husband, -extended to- both warm good w.bho.s for their future happiness. Other speakers, all of whom endorsed the president’s remarks, comprised Mesdames Hampton, Scott, Barry Lawless, Trowoll. F. R. Hill -and Mis-fi Trowel 1.
A lovely bouquet was also presented to Mrs. Smith, who acknowledged the gifts and good wishes in a charmbig manner.
A de l'cious supper was served informally by Mrs. V. Clement and the Misses A. Hampton and Bennett.
