GIRL GUIDE DANCE.
Ablaze with light, Hhe -pretty riverside, home of Mr and Airs YV. D; Lysnaif';presented a. festive scene on Tuesday night when the Commissioners and Guidons of the P.B. Division of Gill Guides held a. very delightful dance with the object of raising funds for the purchase of camp Equipment.
No detail, had been overlooked in the preparations for the function, and much of-.tlie credit for the success achieved was undoubtedly due to the efforts of the organisers, Airs R». Andrew, Gisborne 1 District Commissioner, and Alisa W. Lysnar, Poverty Bay camp adviser, who were assisted by the following: Guiders—Airis. A. Andrews and Misses H. Humphreys, W. O’Halloran, D. Woodhead, L. Davys, A. Bell, Al. Fergusson and M. Barries; Rangers—Aliases N. Kennedy, J. Fergusson, Al. AVheakly and one ranger recruit. Alucli-appreciated services were also rendered by .C.Q.M.S. D. G. Richardson, Sergt. C. W. Ta'ylor arid Privates E. Hockley, H. Zachariah and ,L. Ferris, members of the local Territorial units.
The various sittfngrooms were fragrant with a wealth of spring bulbs, alluringly combined with great sprays of pnihus'blo'ssom artistically arranged by Mrs L. Balfour, P.B. Divisional Commissioner.
Tho spacious ivory panneded ballroom provided a charming setting for the dancers, all of whom thoroughly entered into the joyous spirit of the occasion.
Tho up-to-date music, supolied by Ali-s G. G. YVinter’s orchestra, was greeted with , encouraging approval, and extras were contributed by Alessrs. B. Chrisp 'and H. Patterson. A buffet supper was' served from a flower-decked table in the diningroom.
Airs Balfour was wearing a graceful frock of black lace and a Vermillion red ring velvet cape caught on the shoulder with a diamante ornament. Airs Lysnar wore an elegant frock of black beaded satin and a, long cape to match lined with crimson. The organisers, Airs Andrew and Aliss Lysnar, looked very trim and. smart in camp uniform. Sir Standish O’Grady Roc-he, A. to his Excellency the Gover-nor-General, and YVing-Commander Grant Dalton accompanied by his daughter, Aliss Grant Dalton, were present as the guests of the Commissioners. YYulliamson and L. Y’oung. DEMONSTRATION DANCE. On Tuesday might the City Hall was the scene of a delightful dance and demonstration of ballroom dancing given by Air YYh E. Priestley, of the Margaret O’Connor Studio, Auckland, partnered by Aliss Moira Alartin . The function attracted a. large attendance, and that the demonstration was appreciated to ' the full was shown by the prolonged applause after each number.
The four items presented were effectively portrayed arid served to show the versatility of ATr Priestley and Alias Alartin who, at the close of the display, were overwhelmed with eon gratulations.
Skilful execution distinguished the opening number, a modern waltz and a finished interpretation .of o quickstep followed, the dancers being greeted .with rounds of - applause. » After supper, Air Priestley and Aliss Alartin were seen to advantage in a fox-trot and in the final item the rumba too complicated for the ordinary dancer—achieved the charm of perfect .grace. Aliss Alartin was wearing a . very smart frock of oyster georgette del' cately patterned, in rilyei* and ornamented with a deep rose corsage flower.
Dancing was enjoyed throughout the evening to ga.y and up-to-date music supplied by the International Cabaret Band, delightful extras being contributed by Alessrs. S. Skeet, R. AlcNiool and a member of the orchestra during the -supper interlude. Refreshments were served under the direction of-Airs J. 'McLeod assisted by Mesdames; D. • Batry; D l . Hughes and Alisses N. Alartin and M. McLeod. Slender crystal vases of jonquils were used with artistic effect in the decoration of the tables.

A CARD PARTY
Tho fund which is being raised by a number of croquet enthusiasts for the purpose of purchasing equipment in regard to the formation of a croquet club at the Rutene road reserve, benefited considerably as the result of a most successful card party at Le Grand Cafe on YY r ednesda.y afternoon. The duties of hostesses were undertaken by Alesdames. W. Al. Jenkins, C. Wade, H. H. De Costa, D. G. Robertson, T.' G. Lawless, Simpson, A. J. Barnard, R. Fisken, F. E. Ormiston and H. F. Forster. The pretty room >vas decorated with effectively arranged pot plants and a delicious afternoon tea was served during a jileasant interlude. Twenty-five tables of bridge and five of flag 500 were requisitioned and attractive prizes were awarded to the successful competitors. The prize for the highest bridge score was won by Airs A. F. Houston, second place going to Airs AlcKinnon whilst Mrs W. S. AlcTvee was awarded the consolation prize. Flag five hundred honors were annexed by Alesdames. P. Alann, Henderson, Havers and Wilson.
