LADIES’ HOOKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS. % NEXT MONTH’S FIXTURE. BILLETING PROGRESS. A meeting of the committee in charge of tho billeting arrangements for the New Zealand ladies’ hockey tournament, to open at Gisborne on August 31, was held in Le Grand Lounge last evening. In the absence of tho chairman, Air. A. Cassin presided over a full attendance of members. Letters from Southland, Akitio and Wellington, notifying that they required billeting for all tlieir players, wore read.

It was decided to defer notifying teams that it may not be possible to billet managers and chaperones until tho whole of the requests for billeting have come to hand. Reports regarding billets secured were presented by the different members of the committee. It was mentioned that, so far, notice of only about one-quarter of the billets expected to be required had been received and it was decided that members of the committee shall canvass different blocks in tho town in order to ascertain who are willing to accommodate girls during the tournament. The -chairman and Mr. C. Greig were authorised to secure prices for tho hire of beds -and bedding, should it be necessary to supply people who have accommodation for tlio visitors but insufficient of the articles mentioned. Tho next meeting of the committee was arranged for August 1, which is tho day after the entries for the tournament close and when tho number of teams entering will be definitely known. DONATIONS WELCOMED. Circulars -sent out by the finance committee to business people, inviting donations towards the cost of the tournament, have already brought results, including one cheque for 10/6 from a businessman who -spoke in enthusiastic terms of the benefit which must be gained by the town through the holding of tho important fixture. This supporter, too, asked tho committee to approach him again, at the close of the tournament, if it failed to balance the budget. Donations will be gladly accepted by any member of the finance committee. They may bo fo-rwarded to Mr. A. Cassia who is supervising arrangements.^ UMPIRES FOR TO-MORROW.
