LOST OVERBOARD
LINE! V S NTGITTWATCHMAN v DROWNED. <Pres» Aasociatjcw-i WELLINGTON, April 8. Six days out from Southampton, when the vessel was rolling heavily a night watchman, A. Pinckney, was missed from the lonic and wnen n search, revealed no trace o] him it was concluded that he had fallen overboard. Inquiries made by a reporter nn the vessel’s arrival today showed that the lost man was an elderly Englishman who had been with the lonic on several voyages. His duties took him to various parts of the ship and hy the time a thorough .search had heen made on hoard some distance had heen covered. In any case* it w»s dark. The man was first reported to he missing at- 2 p.m., and in the heavy sea. running- the chance of finding him in the water iwns negligible.
