FIRST AID POSTS
ST. JOHN AAfBULANOE RR-O--I’OS AI.S SAFETY ON THE ROADS. With a view' to following the lead given by St. John’s Gate, England, the gt. John Ambulance Association has submitted proposals to the Wellington Automobile Association for the establishment of “first-aid posts on highways. At a recent meeting of the association, ifhe proposal was outlined as follows: (1) That- the automobile association share equally the expense of installing firsUaid posts. (2) All the instruction, certificates and supply of equipment to be carried out by the St. John Ambulance Association. ; (3) First-aid posts to he placed' at ten-mile intervals, with tho exception of didos and large towns whore medlicnl and JhqxJp'i.tal assistance is easily obtained. It is to be laid down that, no station would -be.opened 1 or equipment issued until n.t least four persons in the immediate neighbourhood wcjrc qualifiedl as “first-aiders” In fact it is to be encouraged to obtain as many as twenty first-aiders in the neighbourhood. (4) After the organisation whs com_ plote and tho necessary number of first-aiders were certified, equipment w'ould he issued!. (5) Arrangements to bo made Tor intermittent signs notifying that a first aid post is situated one of two miles easft or west, with the telephone number of the post. (6) At- stated intervals the automobile association patrol officers would compare tho equipment, with tho inventory and see that the articles deficient w'orc accounted for in the case hooks and make reports to the Wellington centre.
