The two victims who were battered into insensibility during the weekend wave or violent crimes, died m hospital without regaining consciousness. A me .-sage on Monday stated that seven violent crimes occurred during the week-end. In each case armed men held up and. assaulted either sbopewners or persons in the street. Two of- the victims were battered into iinsensibility . Three men at South Melbourne escaped from a cafe where they punched a middle-aged woman and lore her clothes in an unsuccessful attempt to steal the till. Another man was garrotted and robbed of £285 hi- notes.
