THROWN INTO AIR.
WHALE! COMES UP UNDER LAUNCH HARPOONER SEVERELY INJURED LEAKING BOAT REACHES SHORE IN NICK OF TIME (Pj ess Association) BLENHEIM, Nov. 9. A Tory Channel whaling party harpooned a huge right whale from the speed launch Cachelot. The mammal sounded, but came up under the launch., throwing the craft high into the air, and -starting a couple of planks, while the shock exploded a spare bomb in the launch.
Air Joseph Peraim, leader of the party ,who was operating the harpoon gun right over the bombs, was severely injured, a large part of his thigh and back muscles being torn away. The harpoon luxe was hurriedly .severed, and the launch in' a sluicing condition, made full, speed tor the beach; which was reached in the nick of ,time.
' Mr Perano was removed to Picton Hospital where lie was operated on. His condition is serious, but not grave.
The other occupants «f tlie launch arc believed to have 'sustained minor injuries, but the details are meagre.
