WEEKLY FLOODLIGHT MEETING

Favored by a mild evening, the weekly floodlight sports meeting conducted by the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club at the Childers Road Reserve, attracted the usual large following. Tho events were run oil' in good time and some close finishes were witnessed, although the times were not particularly fast. A great improvement was noticeable in the public address system, which was operated last evening for the first time from a sound-proof cubicle at the end of the stand. The National dancing section drew splendid entries and proved very popular to a large section of the crowd. .Mrs. Menzies officiated at the piano. ■A novice.wrestling bout between IT. Lee and W.. Douglas, caused much excitement. Lee secured a fall early in the second round with a reverse arm bar, and though Don el as strived hard to equalise in the final round, the match went to Lee. Owing to the fact that one of the contestants neglected to be examined by a doctor, the bout between H. Cooper and T. Stevens did not eventuate. The W.E.C.M.R, Regimental Band were in attendance, and playing under the conductorshin of Lieut. A. Wood, rendered a number of much enjoyed selections. Members of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance were present on the ground, but fortunately their services were not required. Kane led throughout the final lap and was closely followed by Murphy, Brvan, and Cousins. Kane and Murphy drew out i.n. fhe straight but a brilliant sprint by Brvan saw him catch Murphy ten yards from the tape, and finish two yards behind the winner. Time, 4.33 3-5.
