Miss Constance Osborne concluded her series of talks on her experiences abroad, and was accorded the closest attention. ' During the evening the club’s annual donation ol Christmas gifts to the Returned Soldiers’ Association was handed to Mr. W. Oakden, who thanked the members on behalf of the association.

A TEA PARTY. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. J. Blair invited a number of friends to a charmingly arranged tea party at her home in Iranui road, to meet Mrs. I l '. T. Morgan, of Wellington. The weather was delightful and a very pleasant time was spent wandering round the pretty garden and later chatting indoors, the guest of honor enjoying the opportunity afforded of renewing old friendships. The drawingroom was artistically decorated with howls of mied blooms, and tea was served informally from a flower-decked table.

ST. JOHN’S LADIES’ GUILD. Complete success attended the very delightful garden party held under the auspices of St. John’s Anglican Ladies’ Guild at “The Laurels,” the home of Mrs. C. H. Perns, on Thursday afternoon. The weather was all that could he desired for an out-door function, and the picturesque grounds, so admirably adapted to such an occasion, were looking very attractive in tho brilliant sunshine. Two diverting .competitions,' conducted by Mrs. Dennis, who also donated the charming prizes, wero.bo.th won by Mrs. Harvey, consolation prizes going to Mesdamcs. ; A. The first of the weekly tourneys arranged b,y the lady members of the Gisborne Club was held on Wednesday afternoon under ideal weather conditions, a cool; breeze tempering the bright, sunshine. Excellent entries were received, and the. keenly contested games were thoroughly onjoyed. The successful competitors. were Mesdames. C. H. Wells and E. Harper, Mesdames. ,B. Hacche and E. The weekly .tournament organised by the lady members of the Whataupoko Club- drew a large . entry on Wednesday afternoon, keen enthusiasm being displayed by the tors.

Honors were annexed by Mrs. E. P. Kellibcr and Miss Pickering. Mesdames. F. R. Pitcher and P. A. Clark being the runners-up. Tea was served in the pavilion during an interlude in the play, a crystal vase of aquilegia combined with abutilon adorning the table. Among the players were: Mesdames. H. H. Barker, A. McGregor, G. VISITOR ENTERTAI NED. On Wednesday morning Airs. AV. A. Smith invited the executive of the Gisborne Women’s Club to a charmingly arranged tea at her home in Derby street, to meet Mrs. LovellSmifch, secretary of the Hastings 'Women’s Club, who is visitipg friends in Poverty Bay. A delectable tea was served in the (lower-decked drawingroom, and a very pleasant time was spent discussing club matters and in exchanging ideas. The hostess was wearing a graceful frock of fioral flat crepe cut on simple lines. The guest of honor chose a becoming ensemble of saxe blue jersey cloth, and a hat to tone.

A MORNING TEA. A delightful morning tea was given by Mrs. W. A. Bowie at the “Mary-Elizabeth” on Wednesday, in honor of Miss H. Thomson, of Wellington, who is paring a round ■ of visits in Poverty Bay. A wealth of lovely roses creased r m atmosphere of charm, and the spent a very pleasant time chatting with their friends. The hostess was wearing a smart frock of white crinkly crep-i patterned in s, large bracken brown overebook with a coatee to match finished with white collar and cuffs stitched with brown and an orange tagel straw hat. POVERTY BAY GARDENING CIRCLE.

Tho popularity of the. series, of garden parties organised by the Poverty Bay Gardening Circle was demonstrated by the large attendance of’ members at the homo of Mrs. T. Corson, Riverside road 1 -, on Thursday afternoon.

The weather was particularly' kind, enabling the guests to wander at will in the picturesque grounds. The hostess specialises in roses, and choice blooms of every variety and shade filled the air with frag* ranee, trees and lovely native shrubs forming an' effective setting for the wealth of color.

Scott at her home iii Pox street as a farewell to Mr. Malcolm' Scott, who has received .notice .of transfer to the Paeroa branch of the Bank of', Australasia. The prizes for the highest score were wen by Miss Colleen Blackburn and Mr. M. Stewart and each was rewarded with an ’attractive gift.

TENNIS DANCE. 1 A bright and - cheery dance, organised by the members of the Patntah.i Tennis Club, • was held in the local hall on Tuesday night. Both the floor and the music were all that could he desired, each num ber supplied by Mrs. Monzies’ orchestra being repeatedly encored. . The floor was capably supervised bv Mr. C. Cusack and delightful extras were contributed by Misses E. Burgess and A. Ritchie. The supper arrangements were in the efficient hands of a ladies’ committee. the artistic table decorations consisting of bowls of pastel-hued roses and 'slender vases of sweet peas.
