“MIDSHIPMAID” AND “YOU SAID A MOUTHFUL” Seldom have Regent audiences laughed so long and so heartily as they did on Saturday when two difi ferent types of comedies were presented. Jessie Mattews in “The Midshipmaid”. a,nd Jo Brown in “You Said a Mouthful”. Jessie Matthews has made a sensational Lit in ‘‘The Miclshipmaid”, Gainsborough’s lati est musical comedy adapted from the popular hook and play by lan Hay and Commander Stephen King-Hall whose “Middle Watch” is‘still remembered by picture-goers. This rollicking nautical film with its uproarious humor is delightful. No person, old or young, possessing tlie capacity to appreciate lively acting iand rich humor before picturesque naval backgrounds can fail to enjoy this sparkling comedy, with its splashes of bright music and, tuneful , songs. Jesie Matthews is given every opportunity to display her singing and dancing ability, and her training in Mr O. B. Cochran’s revue company stands her in good stead. The supporting cast includes Claude Allister Joyce Kirby, and A. TV. Baskcomb. Joe E. Brawn, finds himself in situations impossible as they , are ludicrous in “You Said a Mouthful”, which is the second comedy feature. “You Said a Mouthful” must surely be regarded as one of the outstandingly; funny pieces, of the year. Joe E. Browri, of coarse, is the show, and he is seen in the very 'difficult ■ predicament of .having to compete in a marathon swimming contest, in ; order to justify himself in the eyes ;of a young lady hut, unfortunately for him, he is unable to swim a stroke. Ginger Rogers acts well .in tlie feminine lead. The second half of the Regent’s laughter week twill : commence on Wednesday with. Chari lie Rugglep, and Mary Bolandl in “Mamma Loves Papa,.”
