Hilton Young, said the reply of the local authorities to the Government call for notion was a programme for clearing away more than 200,000 •houses and rehousing more than 1,000.000 people in five years. It. would cost about £95,000,000. The programme, he said, should employ some SO,OOO people in the building trade and related trades. Since 1875 only 200,000 people had boon rehoused by slum clearance. -It was now .proposed to rehouse 1,000,000 in about one-tenth of that time.
