lIILARI OPS THRILLERROMANCE With Ernest- Truex, international ]y famed comedian, heading a cast of film favorites in a film version of ono of his greatest Broadway successes, Aletro-Goldwyn-Alayer’s production, “Whistling- in the Dark”, provided delightful entertainment for large audiences on Saturday. Truex starred on Broadway and in leadingcities of the country for, eleven months in this mystery-comedy, ,which critics hailed with delight ns the play which poked fun at crock dramas. Also prominent in the cast arc Una AEerkol, one ,of the screen’s most popular comediennes.; Edward Arnold. John Miljan, C. Henry Gordon, Johnny Hines, Joseph Cawthorn, Nat Pendleton, Tenon Holtz and Aiarcellc Co-relay. “Whistling in tho Dark” is the. story of a mystery novel author forced to devise. a “perfect crime” for. a band of crooks who plan to kill a -man wbo is far away on a speeding train. Truex, as the author, concocts a deadly scheme, then finds a way of warning his victim without leaving the house in which he and Una Merkel arc held captive. He performs both feats in the face of a warning •that if he fails them, the crooks "ill take the, life of both lovers-To-morrow, the most -exhilirating mystery the cinema has eve.- presented, will be screened under the title, of “The Secret of the Blue Room/' Lionel A twill, Gloria Stuart and Paul Lukas play the loading roles.
