LOCAL ASSN MEETS
Business was fairly brief at the monthly meeting of the local brand) of the South African Veterans Assn., held in Mr. Gorge, Craw'shaw’s office on. Saturday. Veteran F. Collin presided. The Dominion secretary. Mr. J. A. Tilling, who represented the branch at the annual conference held in Wellington. forwarded a. comprehensive report on the proceedings. Twenty delegates were present at idle conference, and many inroortant matters were discussed: with especial consideration ns to ways and means of assisting members who were ir. poor circumstances. —It was decided to forward a letter of thanks Mr. Tilling for his services and report. The proprietors of the Blue Room wrote offering tire wsp of their room free of charge for meetings. The offer was accepted with warm thanks, arid it was decide;! to bold future meetings there on the last Saturday of each month. Mr.- Alfred Walker, of the Sherborne Laager, Quebec, Canada, wrote asking whether any of his old regiment (2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles ALL), were resident in Gisborne, ft was mentioned that one old member resided here, and it was decided t'o write advising Mr. Walker of this fact.
Air. C. V. Strovett, of the Border Cities branch of the association "Windsor, Ontario. Canada, wrote expressing thanks for information regarding the Gisborne branch, and giving interesting particulars of hi. s own branch, also asking whether any who hall served with his regiment, the King's Royal Rifles Mounted Infantry, lived in this district —it was intimated that none lived hove, so far as the association knew. Air. Arc-Masters, lion, secretary, or the headquarters branch. London, forwarded interesting photogranhs of the presentation of colors and In vino- of wreaths on the Cenotaph.
