A remarkable tribute to the late Bert* Lowe, the boxer, was paid at Grcymouth when *3OOO attended his funeral, joining in a half-mile cortege from St. Patrick’s Church, where there was a crowded service, to the railway station. The large attendance at the station disorganised traffic until the train bearing the body of the deceased boxer, his mother, sister, and friends pulled out. Seldom had a death so affected the community—P A.
A passenger by the Mooltan, which has arrived at Fremantle from London, is Mr. J. C. Biekingham, the oldest member of the M.0.C., who i s making, his thirty-fifth visit to New Zealand for trout fishing. He said that cricket relations between England and Australia were quite cordial, despite the recent storm. He was confident that England would retain the “ashes” owing to the entry of several promising young players into the picture, notably Langridge. Valentine and Walters. —P.A.
