OUR READERS’ OPINIONS

BEAUTIFY, THE BOROUGH

(To tlie Editor.)

Sir. —There is tremendous controversy and much feeling against the introduction of beautifying trees and the Town Clock into Gladstone Road. The tower will he of artistic design and will bo a landmark in the town, and the trees' and lawns will he il novel feature and -help to beautify what is at present a drab street. A street can be made a thing of beauty and Gladstone Road will certainly be that when finished. I cannot understand why there is so much unfriendly criticism of the whole idea . It appears that the motorists fear that there won’t be enough road left for them to manoeuvre on, but the trees won’t take up much space, and tiler® will be a track of ample width at each side for vehicles. Our slogan should he “Beautify the Borough.” I am, Yours, etc , OLD RESIDENT.
