PARIS. May 27

Qnist and McGrath played magnificently... Their cool heads and their sound finish gave their reward, and their younger and keener eye.s and faster stroke play dominated the situation. McGrath’s two-handed hack hand shots time and again nonplussed his adversaries. Brugnon, played a safe and steady game. Borotrn. appeared rattier a (logged - man and uncertain in hi s return service. The defeat of the French pair created a. great sensation. It. is now regarded as not strong enough to ensure adequate defence, of the Davis Gup and the authorities are likely to alter their plans. The Australians on 1 he. 29th meet the winner of 'the Perry and Hughes and Coolml and Mo rl i n matches, which had t.° ho postponed until tomorrow on account of rain.
