MLS. SAMUEL NEWEY

Tlio death. occurred, at th c Memorial Homo on Thursday, of Mrs. Xathleen Nowey, relict or Mr..-Sam-uel Ne?woy, a, (resident "of Gisborne for tho past 40 years.. The lato Mrs.. Newoy wa S; . bom at Glasgow 86 years ago, and at tho ago pf nine- came tb New Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Thompson.- - They landed at Dunedin and lived for some time at Pine Hill. Later Mrs. ' Newey went to livo at Oamaru and there met her husband V mho passed' away exactly four years ago. At -that time ter husband had control of the Imperial Hotel, in Oamaru," and also the Criterion Hotel, Timaru.

The late Mrs. Newey came to Gisborne in 1892, and lived quietly here up to the time of her death. She had a family of four, but- only one, a sou, survives. He is Mr. F. -VL Newey, of Gisborne. In addition there are six grandchildren. The Interment took place at the Taruheru Cemetery yesterday, the funeral leaving Haisman's private mortuary.

MRS. WILLIAM LIDDELL. Following an illnoss of only a few days,. the death ■■'occurred, at Hastings yesterday, of Mrs. William Liddell, formerly Miss Eileen Image, of Gisborne. Pneumonia developed and her passing came as a- great shock to her many friends in this district.

Tho late Mrs. Liddell was born in Gisborne and ma s on e of a family of three sisters, the surviving members being Mesdames Fralnk Gartshore (now of Auckland), and L. Ambridge (now of Christchurch).

To tlio 'bereaved husband' and family of two young boys, • and to the two -sisters, the 'deepest sympathy in their sad loss will bo extended.

Deep sympathy will be extended to Air. J. H. Sunderland, of Gisborne, in regard to the death of his father, Air. AI. Sunderland, which occurred at his home in Lancashire, England. The late Air. Sunderland, Who was 73 years of age, had been ailing for some time* past.
