STOCK KILLED BY LIGHTNING
WELL-KNOWN BROOD MARE DEAD
(Special to the Times.) OPOTIKI, May 25. The lightning which was u evidence at Opotiki on Tuesday night was more severe in Wai mi.ua;- being llespousiblo for several fatalities m stock, tho deaths of one mare and several head of cattle being caused. The mare was the well-known Marble Star, by Marble Arch, and although 21 years of age, was in foal to dance. Marble Star in her younger days raced successfully, and in r.no season won the Takapuna Plate and the Whangarei Cup. Several of her progeney have proved good performers, such as Mosaic, Mosque, Gigantic and Bonny Joyce, and she will be a big loss to her owner, Mr F. H. Bell, Of Waimana.
